A sequence re-ordering the order of materials, of shapes and space Albers, Josef - Preliminary Course exercises at the Bauhaus (1923-1933)

About Albers Josef
Joseph Albers, a painter, poet, sculptor, teacher, and art theorist. He is an important innovator in color field painting and Op art style.
In 1925, when he became Bauhaus's "master", he explored a style of painting characterized by repeated abstract straight-line patterns and the use of black and white with primary colors.

Research and visual analysis

Joseph Albers's works are mostly simple, fine and line-lined. He used a lot of simple materials to explore their properties and what kind of space they could form. As Albers put it, "It subverts this order and puts practice before theory, after all, it is the conclusion of practice(Albers, 2009, p. 1)." He was keen to look for structures, frames and preserve the inherent properties of the material, so most of the materials he used were common things like corrugated paper, paper and cloth. He emphasized the exploration of the treatment of the material itself.
In the works I have chosen, I can see Joseph Albers's understanding of the properties and structure of the material, all of which are stable and spatial. It's a combination of craftsmanship and art, a scientific approach to the spirit of the times (Zender, 2016), from which the raw materials can be visually seen, and Albers retains their own characteristics, but cleverly transforms them from flat to three-dimensional.
In my opinion, most of albers's works in this series are three-dimensional, using the simplest materials to make models, architecture and other works. Folding is a very important step, which determines the final work results.
My work

In my iteration, I tried cropping and folding. I wanted to find the feeling of combining lines and geometry like Joseph Albers's work. I tried line cropping and circular cropping. But these iterations didn't work as well as I expected, and I wanted more neat and complex lines.

Final work
In my final work, I combined cutting and folding to make my designs more geometric and spatial by cutting and folding lines.
I use rectangular, circular, and square geometry. This combines the geometry shown in my iteration.
Through the combination of light and shadow and works, so that my design is more extended, different lengths of lines constitute different spaces, complex but neat.
